Planning Efforts

The tragic events of September 11, 2001 changed Americans forever. But from this tragedy emerged a new resolve to protect ourselves against another attack.

In 2002 the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services accepted a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to hire a team of professionals to increase preparedness in Missouri. From that grant, Region D received four bioterrorism planners. Since then, changes in funding have allowed local public health departments to receive monies to hire planners on their own.

For a list of planners and other staff in southwest Missouri, visit our Bioterrorism/Emergency Response Team page.

Planners work with local public health departments, emergency management agencies and other partners to prepare plans for public health emergency response and mass prophylaxis.
